Ismail Said (PhD) is an associate professor and departmental head of Department of Landscape Architecture at Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He has been teaching at the university since 1985. He also has taught landscape architecture at King Abdul Aziz University, Saudi Arabia in 1991 to 1993 and did his sabbatical at School of Environmental Design, National University Singapore in 2002. His major research areas are children’s environment and vernacular architecture. He has published 130 papers in journals and conference proceedings and 5 books on materials of landscape architecture and architecture. Currently, he is supervising 12 PhD students studying a variety of topics including the impact of green infrastructure on urban residents’ wellbeing, place attachment on open spaces, walkable city environment, typology of landscape spaces in hospital setting, and children’s play plot ratio in residential setting.
Dr. Akeel Noori Almlla Hwaish holds a PhD in Architecture, Islamic Built Environment & Environmental Impact Assessment. He is a fully licensed consultant Architect since (1996). He is one of the pioneers who established Faculty of Architecture & Environmental Design, International Islamic University Malaysia, Guest lecturer in the Architectural Design Dept., University Putra Malaysia . He has held several academic positions & served as Director for many consultation bureaus, Consultant and senior Design Manager for many international projects in Malaysia, Dubai-UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iraq from 1990-2008. He successfully combines professional and academic roles and has a particular interest in Traditional & Contemporary Islamic Built Environment Studies, Heat Exchange in Building, EIA, and Passive & Green Architecture.
Jihad Awad – Short Bio:
Dr. Jihad Awad is currently an associate professor of architecture at Ajman University of Science & Technology in UAE. He studied architecture and urban design in Jordan, USA and Germany. He has taught at different universities in Palestine and was head of department of architecture at An-Najah National University in Nablus, Palestine (1997-2000).
His main fields of interest are traditional architecture in the Middle East, Islamic architecture and urbanism, and contemporary architecture of the Arab world.
He has published numerous papers and articles in different journals, regional and international. He was involved in organizing many conferences, symposia and workshops. He is member of advisory boards and committees for many journals, associations and institutions.
Currently, he is working on different books: “Design Concepts in Architecture,” with contributions by 80 renowned architects; “Future Visions for Architecture & Cities of the Islamic World,” with contributions by many Arab scholars and architects; and “Rasem Badran: The Architecture of People, Place and Time.”
